The greatest mistake the federal government can make is to institute any form of dialogue or fresh amnesty programme for the Niger-Delta Avengers, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Ambrose Aisabor has said.
He said the group which is behind the renewed attacks on oil installations in the Niger-Delta should key into the already existing amnesty programme.
Commenting on the renewed insurgency in the oil rich region in a chat with DailyTrust on Sunday in Lagos, the ex-police boss wondered why the Nigerian Navy and the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Niger Delta cannot quell the attacks.
“It appears the Niger Delta Avengers’ members are more motivated than the Nigerian Navy and the JTF because almost on a daily basis, you would hear so, so, so station and pipeline blown up. Where is our Navy? Which means the Avengers are more motivated than them”, he said.
The ex-AIG said it was a shame that the group could be perpetrating such attacks in a country that has a very strong Navy. Aisabor also frowned at the agitation for secession by the Indigenous Peopleof Biafra, (IPOB), saying the agitators were bereft of history and that they do not know the implication of war.
